Common Theme: “Bringing Article 9 to life”

The Global Article 9 Conference to Abolish War will feature three main elements, the first being the plenary session featuring guests such as Nobel Peace Prize Laureates and internationally renowned figures. Second will be symposiums and workshops with participants from Japanese and international NGOs and the wider peace movement. These two segments will be coordinated by the Japan Organising Committee of the Global Article 9 Conference.

The third part is Self-Organised Events - which are open for any groups or individuals to suggest and create themselves. Such events which will ensure that the conference becomes a truly diverse, open, grassroots festival unlike any other. While the common theme of "Bringing Article 9 to Life" will apply to all self-organised events, workshops will be held on a range of issues related to peace and the future of our planet.

Groups both based in Japan and internationally will be hosting a range of workshops, panels and discussions within the "Self-Organised Event" category. Examples include personal testimonies by hibakusha (survivors of atomic bombs), film screenings, symposiums on topics such as gender, depleted uranium, and US bases in Asia, performances of music, dance and rakugo, photographic exhibitions, disarmament and nonviolent workshops for both children and adults, and lawyers' panel discussions.
