Global Events

Apart from the over 5000 local grassroots organizations supporting Article 9 in Japan, there is a growing international movement also in support of Article 9 and its principles. Please see the list of international supporters for more details about some of the groups and individuals involved.

As part of this movement, to both raise awareness of Article 9 and share it globally, there are a number of events being planned around the world in support of Article 9 and its principles.

For example, The Vancouver Save Article 9 group, in cooperation with the Peace Philosophy Centre, is actively campaigning for Article 9 in Canada, and hosted a fundraising event on February 29th to support and fund their participation in the Global Article 9 Conference itself.

In addition, an academic conference will be held in Vladivostok, Russia in the lead up to the Conference. This will be held on 30 April, 2008, organised by the Center for International Studies of the Marine State University. Under the title "Japan: Six decades without a Right to War," the conference will elaborate on the various social, economic and political aspects of Japan's contemporary situation and will discuss possibilities of strengthening Northeast Asian multilateral security mechanisms and building a bilateral cooperation between Russia and Japan.

Numerous other possibilities exist to hold events linked to the Global Article 9 Conference throughout the world, whether as fundraising for international participants to travel to Japan and participate in person, or to share messages of solidarity and support. We look forward to hearing about likeminded events throughout the world!
